Aloha Oʻahu

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 16, 2026

Aloha Oʻahu is a travel guide app for Oʻahu. You don't create an account to use it, most of what you do stays on your iPhone, and we never sell your information. This policy explains what the app and this website handle, why, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Aloha Oʻahu (“Aloha,” “we,” “us”) is published by the developer named on the app's App Store listing. This policy covers the Aloha Oʻahu iPhone app, its Apple Watch app and widgets, and this website. Questions go to the contact on our Support page.

What stays on your iPhone

Your trip plans, saved places, favorites, profile preferences, passport visits, badges, hike history and personal bests, and AI credits you bought are stored on your device. Deleting the app deletes them, except items that iOS keeps in the Keychain or in your device backups.

Location

If you allow Location Services while using the app, Aloha uses your location to show where you are on the map, play narration when you reach a stop, give turn-by-turn directions, and track a hike, surf or snorkel session that you start. Hike Mode uses your location only during a session you start. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings. We don't sell or share your location for advertising.

Photos and camera

Oʻahu Lens uses the camera to take photos, read text and recognize what you point at. Recognition and Talk translation run on your iPhone. If you ask Aloha AI for more, Aloha sends the words and labels it found, not the photo.

If you connect Photos, Aloha reads the photos you allow so it can place them on the island map, group them by day and make day movies. Day movies are made on your iPhone and your photos never leave it. You choose which photos Aloha can see, and you can change that in iOS Settings.

Microphone and speech

The microphone is used only when you talk to Aloha AI, play voice trivia, or use Lens Talk. Talk translation uses Apple's speech recognition and translation on your iPhone. Voice conversations with Aloha AI are sent to our AI provider, as described below.

Apple Health, Apple Watch and motion

With your permission, Hike, Surf and Snorkel modes read heart rate and save your workouts to Apple Health, where they count toward your Fitness rings. The barometer and motion sensors measure climb and pauses. Health data stays in Apple Health and on your devices and is used only for these features.

Health and workout data is never sent to Aloha AI or any other AI provider, never used for advertising and never sold.

Calendar and reminders

If you ask, Aloha adds trip items to your Calendar or Reminders. Aloha AI always asks you before it writes to your Calendar. Aloha does not read your other events.

Aloha AI

Aloha AI is optional. The first time you use it, the app explains how it works and asks for your permission. Nothing is sent to an AI provider before you agree, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings › Privacy & Permissions › AI Privacy. The maps, guides and your purchases keep working without it.

When you use Aloha AI, your messages, voice, and the context needed to answer (such as the guide or card you are looking at, your trip plan, preferences, saved places and approximate or precise location) are sent through our server to OpenAI, which generates the reply. Our server keeps a usage record for each install: a random install ID, the number and cost of AI replies, voice time and which purchases unlock AI. It doesn't keep the text of your conversations. OpenAI processes requests under its own terms and data controls.

Don't share passwords, payment details, government ID numbers or anything you don't want sent to these services. AI answers can be wrong or out of date.

Purchases

Purchases are handled by Apple. We receive proof of purchase from Apple to unlock what you bought and to apply your Aloha AI access. We never see your payment card.

Optional analytics

The app can ask whether you want to share anonymous usage analytics, such as which screens, guides and features you use. It is off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings › Privacy & Permissions. A separate switch covers which tour stops you visited and for how long, which counts as location data.

Analytics uses a random ID that is reset if you turn analytics off. It never includes names, email addresses, messages, AI prompts or replies, photos, exact coordinates or the advertising ID. Analytics events are processed by PostHog in the United States.

Content we load

Maps come from Apple Maps. Photos, audio and video for the guides are delivered from content networks such as Cloudinary and YouTube, and weather and ocean forecasts from public forecast services. These services receive the technical information any app sends when it loads content, such as your IP address and device type.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies, ads or tracking. Our host keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and pages requested, to run and protect the site. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts.

No sale, no ad tracking

We don't sell your personal information, we don't share it for cross-app advertising, and the app doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites.

How long we keep things

Data on your iPhone stays until you delete it or the app. Our server's AI usage records are kept while they are needed to run AI access, fair use and billing. Anonymous analytics are kept for up to one year. Apple, OpenAI and other providers keep data under their own policies.

Your choices and rights

You can deny or change any permission in iOS Settings, turn Aloha AI or analytics off in the app, remove photos from Aloha's access, remove passport visits, and delete the app at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what we hold about you and to have it corrected or deleted. Contact us through the Support page and we'll help you find the records linked to your install.

Children

Aloha Oʻahu is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Families can play Movie Tour trivia together on a parent's device.

Changes

When this policy changes in a material way, we will update the date above and tell you in the app.
